Suede Announce UK Summer 2014 Forest Gigs

Britpop pioneers Suede have announced gigs this summer as part of the Forestry Commission's Forest Live concert series where an eclectic mix of acts perform in magnificent woodland locations around the country.

Suede bounded onto the British music scene with the eponymous No 1 debut album released in 1993 that sold over 100,000 in its first week of release, kick-starting the Britpop revolution and going on to become a Mercury Music Prize winner. Success continued throughout the nineties with further No 1 albums like 'Coming Up' and 'Head Music' and top 10's 'Dog Man Star' and 'Sci-Fi Lullabies'.  Fronted by the charismatic Brett Anderson, top 10 singles like 'Animal Nitrate', Stay Together', 'Trash', 'Beautiful Ones', 'Saturday Night', 'Lazy', 'Filmstar' and 'Electricity' epitomised the vibrancy, edge and excitement of the band and ensured an impressive chart presence across a decade before going on indefinite hiatus in 2003. After re-forming for some well-received live shows in 2010-11, Suede got down to recording their sixth studio album.  'Bloodsports' was released in 2013 to overwhelmingly positive reviews, marked as one of the great rock comebacks and regarded as one of the best albums of the year.

Forest Live is an independent programme organised by the Forestry Commission bringing music to new audiences without commercial branding or sponsorship. Income from the concerts is spent on improving the woodland for both people and wildlife.

Big Plans for The Cure in 2014

The Cure’s two sold-out shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall in March are being billed as just the beginning of “a very busy 2014″ for Robert Smith and Co., with the band today announcing plans to release the long-delayed companion to 2008′s 4:13 Dream and a series of live DVDs. The band will also perform The Top, The Head on the Door and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me in concert.

The Cure promises to release “in the next few months” both a series of live concert DVDs, no further details are offered, as well as the band’s 14th studio album, a collection recorded at the same time as 4:13 Dream and tentatively titled 4:14 Scream. Smith previously has characterized that material as much darker than what was released on 4:13 Dream.


In late 2014, according to the release, The Cure are making plans for another “Trilogy”-style tour, this time featuring full performances “around the world” of its three albums released between 1984 and 1987. This follows 2002 shows centered around Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers and 2011 dates performing Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds and Faith.

No further details were offered of the touring or release plans although fans should always be wary of Smith’s announcements of new material.

In 2009, upon revealing plans for a deluxe reissue of Disintegration, Smith also teased a number of releases that have yet to see the light of day, including DVD reissues of “The Cure in Orange” and “Show,” a boxed set of BBC recordings and a sequel to 1990 remix collection Mixed Up

Joe Lean Returns...without his Jing, Jang or Jong.

Fantastic news, Joe Lean of the much loved around these parts Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong is back with his new band Boyband. See their debut video below...

The band played their debut gig in London recently kicking off with the single “Motorcycle Boy”, a snarling slice of indie rock which bodes well. We are chuffed that at least a couple of tracks bear more than a passing resemblance to JJJ  – a soaring chorus here, some girl group harmonies there. Joe minces around, staring deadpan into the middle distance, finger-clicking.



A track we didnt get the title of opens with the drum beat from Primal Scream’s “Rocks” before turning into a 60s-esque ballad that opens with Joe crooning “you got me wrong” and a riff-heavy Strokes-esque number called “Tiger Stripes” that features more self-deprecating lines. Closer “Give It Up” features a repeated chorus of “You’re bringing me down”.

We hope this is the start of something for Joe, we were gutted when the JJJ finished and loved their unreleased album, heres to Joe for 2014 (full review here)
